Vested and tied bartenders and servers provide patrons with the ultimate in service in this trendy and stylish yet romantic atmosphere. The music here includes blues and jazz, matching the atmosphere of the place. The entrance to McCrady's Lounge is actually located around the corner from the restaurant entrance at 155 Bay Street, and you'll feel as if you're entering old Charleston here.
Housed in a building listed on the National Register of Historic Places and Landmarks, the building was built by Edward McCrady in 1788. The space was rebirthed in 1982 after virtual abandonment. It encompasses the bar, the main dining room, the chef's Room which links to the society room, the long room and the gallery room, and they all fit together in an incredible web. Horses and buggies were once found in the bar room, and the bricked "stalls" now serve as smaller spaces for four to eight patrons. And the impressive award winning wine collection is on display in a glass and wood wall behind the long and elegant wood bar. House-infused spirits, probably procured from the McCrady's farm, and rare liquors are also found at the bar.
When you're looking for a long night date, you can start and end at the bar and lounge, either with your date or with a larger group in one of the elegant dining rooms. A Chef's tasting at $75 to $90 per person for the entire table includes appetizers and incredible seafood, fowl and beef, delectable desserts and carefully selected wines. The three course prix fixe menu is $35 per person and provides an exceptional sampling of the restaurant's food at an excellent price.
Opening at 5 pm daily, McCrady's offers a great get-away to old town for Charleston apartment-ites. It is definitely designated "green" with it's recycling and home-grown processes and well worth a visit.
