Other ships that have joined the Yorktown in the harbor include the destroyer USS Laffey, also known as "the ship that would not die," the treasurer class coast guard cutter Ingham, and the Balao class submarine Clamagore. If the sea going experience isn't your thing, take to the skies at the airplane hangar and flight deck on the Yorktown. The huge hangar deck features a splendid display of war planes from World War II and Korea, and aircraft from the Vietnam War, Desert Storm, as well as more modern fighter planes are located on the boat's flight deck. Special attention was paid here to the Vietnam War, with a replica of a Vietnam Base Camp river patrol boats and the Seawolves helicopter crew.
When Charleston apartment-ites visit, they will see (by looking at the planes) and hear what it was like for the pilots of the planes during WWII. With some of the most incredible war planes that helped the US win the war in the Pacific, you will hear pilot and crew member voices barking out orders on audio and working in an environment of constant danger.
This park is open virtually all year, with the exception of Christmas Day. It is available for touring 9 am to 6:30 pm. Tickets aren't cheap for adults at $16 for adults, $13 for seniors and active military with an ID, $8 for children ages 6-12, and FREE for active military in uniform and children under six.
