JB Pivot's Beach Club

60's that incorporates rhythm and blues to the easygoing rock style of that time. The dance is sort of a lazy jitterbug with a slow shuffle of the feet and a southern soul at the top. Every summer, Charleston apartment-ites can look forward to the Charleston Beach Music and Shag Festival sponsored at JB Pivot's. The club is actually a member of the Beach Music and Shag Preservation Society that brings the festival to Charleston, no kidding!
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday nights are when shag dance lessons are offered, and it's just $5 with no partner needed. 7 pm is when the lessons start, and the party really gets going at 9 pm when the music starts. The free lessons for youthful shaggers ages 2-20 are offered at 6:30 pm on Fridays, and line dancing and shagging is free again to the public on Wednesdays. Wednesday is also Salsa dancing night from 7:30 to 8:30. And there is also the occasional country shag lessons offered. Pivot's is closed on Mondays, and make sure you check the website or give Pivot's a call to confirm the schedule.
In addition to all the great dancing, some well-known DJ's like to perform for the crowds at Pivot's. Their style makes it happening event. For those non-smoking Charleston apartment-ites, JB Pivot's is proud to say that it has been smoke-free for the past four years. Here you can breathe easy while getting a great dancing workout.
